Mains voltage is not a preference, it is a physical property of the socket in your wall. A device built for 220V and 50Hz has its motor, its heater and its safety margins designed around that supply.

Three possibilities, and only the seller can tell you which one applies. Either the unit shipped to US buyers is a different, 120V build and the published specification is wrong, or the specification is right and the unit needs a step up transformer, or the plate was copied from a supplier catalogue and nobody checked. All three are worth an email before you spend $99.95.
